Rats of Broadway

I’ve decided
if I go to school in NYC
if/when I get homesick
and/or I wish to leave
I’ll name the rats I see
until I’ve named each rat
after a character from a musical
I’ll call my project
Rats of Broadway
I plan this because
including *every* character I know
such as Bobby from Cabaret
there will be no way I’ll run out of names
and until I’ve found a rodent namesake
for every one of those characters
I won’t allow myself to runaway home
and I know there’ll be rats
considering I found and named two
in my limited time in Chicago
Templeton and Roscuro, for the record
so I think my plan is pretty fool-proof
especially since
even if I ever feel alone
I’ll have an enormous cast of rats
to keep me company
in the bustling New York City streets
