valley fair
texting loved ones
selfies
shopping at malls with money I don’t have

sitting shotgun with those who just learned to drive
impromptu sleepovers that really aren’t so impromptu
pretty pink Starbucks drinks
people say it makes me selfish
and shallow
for not preparing for a future of obligations and debt
I say it makes me happy
and I want to hold onto smiling for as long as I can
