An Ideal Wife

I know it isn’t a good mentality
to feel I need to prove my queerness
but ever since I was shooed away
from the Columbia queer club
due to never having a girlfriend before
I’ve felt like I had to prove it to myself somehow
but then sleeplessly the other day
while listening to my monologue
proof came in the form of parapraxis
calling my jerk boyfriend my jerk boyfriend
all throughout the gilded aged text
Oscar Wilde would probably find it funny
but it wasn’t just that
it was my stage manager pissed
and my cast mates in stitches
over Marmee suddenly having a wife
and the four little women suddenly having a second mother
and I find it especially funny
that it’s in theatre that I find my unnecessary proof
due to some obvious personal reasons
